Originally established as a beer house in 1817 named “The Duke of Richmond’s Arms”, it adopted the familiar name of “The Crown Inn” by 1876. From its humble beginnings to becoming the village’s most treasured space, it has welcomed everyone from local farmers and grocers to millers and passing soldiers.
Today, while much has changed, The Crown remains what it has always been: a place where great hospitality, good food and the local community come together.
Part of The Crown’s charm is its sense of age and place. The building dates back to the 17th century and has taken on many forms throughout the ages, from an old bakery to a quaint cottage. We even have an old takeaway beer window!
Whether you’re tucked away by the fireplace or perched in the main bar, there truly is character around every corner, and you’ll be able to spot little bits of history etched into the walls. Whether meeting friends for a drink or sitting down for food, The Crown has the relaxed feel of a pub that has been well used, well loved, and properly lived in.
The pub’s cosy atmosphere even pulled in Fleetwood Mac! Whilst residing in Arford they were once regulars of the pub, even writing a song about it called ‘Down at the Crown’.
